The biggest fear would be that there would be no country that could protect me in case of an emergency. A passport serves as an essential tool for protecting citizens by establishing identity, legal standing, and citizenship, enabling safe travel and guaranteeing diplomatic protection by their home government abroad. Alongside this, the role of embassies are to protect the interests of their citizens abroad. However, individuals cannot be protected by these means after seeking asylum. Since there is no protection provided by the home government, asylum seekers are exposed to hostile environments and face difficulties overcoming these environments because they are mostly banned from working and occasionally face indefinite detention. For example, there are various asylum seekers in the United States from Haiti after the major earthquake in 2010. Since the current US administration is seeking to end its asylum visa, many are facing poverty after their work visa got revoked.
